Bridges

Dental bridges are added to replace teeth that have fallen out or have been extracted.  Bridges fill in the spaces between dental implants and healthy teeth to bolster smile aesthetics and also improve tooth functionality.  The bridge process requires a thorough assessment of the patient’s need for restorative dental procedures.  Dental implants and dental crowns have unique merits of their own.  If you know or suspect you need a dental bridge, reach out to Kohli Dental at (386) 255-8866 to schedule an appointment with our practice.  Dr. Sutinder S. Kohli will determine if you are most likely to benefit from a dental bridge or an alternative option.

Dental bridges are positioned on healthy teeth to the sides of the gap. Such teeth are referred to as abutment teeth.  However, the teeth must be properly shaped to accommodate the bridge.  Our dentist will apply a local anesthetic to maximize your comfort.  The initial step requires a filing of abutment teeth to the proper shape for bridge accommodation.  The bridge is made in a dental lab.  I

t might be necessary to use a dental implant to keep the bridge in position, especially if teeth on the sides of the open space cannot accommodate the bridge on their own.  A temporary bridge is put in place before the permanent bridge is added.  Local anesthetic is used during the addition of the permanent bridge to keep you as comfortable as possible.  Follow the dentist’s aftercare instructions, return to our office for your six-month checkups and your bridge will likely last a decade or longer.
