Crowns
The placement of a crown requires a couple dental visits. The initial visit to our Daytona Beach practice is required to analyze and prep the tooth prior to crowning. X-rays of the tooth are taken to analyze the extent of decay and other potential issues. If necessary, the dentist will perform a root canal before placing the crown. Dr. Sutinder S. Kohli will place a temporary crown during the first visit to the office. The second visit removes the temporary crown, setting the stage for the use of a permanent crown that is custom-made. However, the tooth in question will require delicate shaping to accommodate the crown. The reshaping hinges on the crown type. It is at this point that decay to the tooth is also addressed.
Patients that have tooth damage or significant decay might not have enough remaining structure to accommodate the addition of a crown Filling material is used to rebuild the tooth’s structure so the crown can be positioned properly. The dentist then takes an impression based on the tooth’s shape, setting the stage for the crown to connect to the tooth. Impressions are also required for the opposing tooth to create a stable crown connection as the teeth come together during the biting process. Such impressions guarantee the crown fits just right. The crown is then cemented in place for long-lasting stability.
