Root Canal

Root canal procedures performed at our Daytona Beach, FL dental practice relieve dental pain resulting from infected tooth roots or inflammation.  The pulp within the tooth is removed, cleaned and disinfected, setting the stage for the space to be sealed.  The soft portion of the tooth’s center is removed, eliminating the blood vessels, connective tissue and nerves that allowed the tooth to emerge.  Local anesthesia is typically applied before the procedure to optimize comfort.  The crown of the tooth visible above the gums also stays intact after the pulp becomes infected or otherwise compromised.

The removal of the soft center of the tooth requires the creation of a minor opening within the tooth’s top, exposing the compromised pulp for extraction with dental files.  The files clean out the canals within the tooth, setting the stage for the application of a sealant that ensures the canals are not compromised by saliva.  Though the gums and teeth might feel a bit sore after the anesthetic dissipates and there might be slight swelling, they can be addressed with a pain relief medication.  You will be able to transition back into your regular routine merely one day after the root canal procedure.
